The Hartville Branch of the Stark County District Library opened in November 1960. It moved to share quarters with the Hartville Fire Department in 1977, then in October 2003, opened in its present location in the Lake Community Center, also housing Lake Middle/High School, and the Lake YMCA. With this move the branch was renamed the Lake Community Branch.
The library offers ongoing popular children's, teen, and adult programs in addition to providing books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, and reference materials to library patrons.
The Friends promote and support the Lake Community Library by making the library's resources, services, and needs known to the community. The Friends conduct an annual used book sale fundraiser, read at AlterCare, and maintain an Alphabet Garden. They also oversee a library and provide book bags to children of seasonal families employed at the Hartville Migrant Center, and volunteer in countless ways as needed at the local branch.

The Lake Township Historical Society, founded in 1994, is an active organization that regularly stages special events highlighting the history and heritage of the Township. The Society has converted the former Greentown Library located at 3300 Myers St. into a museum and meeting room. Their permanent collection includes farming, commercial, home, and military items, manuscripts, published material, photographs, audio visual materials, and period clothing. New exhibits are presented regularly.
